Route 66 authors, John & Lenore Weiss, were honored with the Route 66 Ambassadors Award at the annual Route 66 banquet in Springfield on June 13, 2009.

This couple has been the spokespersons of the historic road for twenty years. They have brought awareness of the road through their books, bus tours, lectures and organization of film documentaries and tourism efforts.

Their passion is for the preservation of the stories and structures along the famous Mother Road. Because of their efforts, many sites now are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are visited by tens of thousands yearly.

The Wilmington Public Library will be hosting John and Lenore as they present their informative program – Route 66, Then & Now on Tuesday, July 21st at 6:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and is free. Limited seating is available. For reservations or additional information call the Wilmington Library at 815-476-2834.
