The Pontiac Tourism Bureau is proud to announce the major events which are planned for the 4th Annual Red Carpet Corridor Festival, May 1 & 2, 2010.

The Red Carpet Corridor is a 90-mile section of historic Route 66, running from Joliet to Towanda. Each of the 12 communities along the “Mother Road” plans a series of special events to coincide with the festival.

Pontiac offers:

Grand Opening of the New International Walldog Mural & Sign Art Museum. Ribbon cutting ceremony to begin at 10:00 AM. The Museum is located at 217 N. Mill Street in downtown Pontiac. Stop by and meet some of the Walldogs who attended Summer Bash!

City-wide garage and yard sales. Maps available at several locations, including the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum. To have your sale placed on the map, contact the Pontiac Chamber of Commerce at (815) 844-5131 before April 27th.

The unveiling of the Pontiac P.R.O.U.D. art project, “Cruisin’ the Square.” 13 kid-sized fiberglass cars painted by local artists. To be displayed around the downtown area. For more information contact Lori Fairfield at (815) 844-6692.

Book Signing by Author and Photojournalist Michael Campanelli. Route 66 Museum - Saturday and Sunday! Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Route 66 Museum. Saturday only. Free photo of you and your car in front of the World’s Largest Route 66 shield.

Art and craft vendors on the Courthouse Square. Antiques, home crafted art, curios, and more!

WMBD – Broadcasting live from the Courthouse Square. Thursday, April 29th at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Be there or be square!

Especially for kids of all ages:

Big H Amusements - Carnival on the Square. Thursday from 6 PM to 10 PM, Friday - 4 PM to 11 PM , Saturday - 11 AM to 11 PM and Sunday - Noon to 5 PM - April 29th to May 2nd. Daily specials, rides, food, games, prizes, and fun!

“Touch A Truck.” Pontiac Rec Center (Saturday Only – 10 AM to Noon). Children of all ages are invited to come to the Rec Center parking lot to see and touch some really “Cool” rides, including: Fire truck, tow truck, tractor, and many more. Admission Free.

Evenglow Lodge Model Railroad Show.  May 1st and May 2nd. Over 3000 Sq. Ft. of model train layouts, plus antique train collections, train books, and a bake sale. Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM, and Sunday, Noon to 4 PM, at Evenglow Lodge. No admission charge, but donations to the Relay for Life and the Alzheimer’s Association are encouraged.

Route 66 Go Kart track.  Sunday Only – Located 4 miles south of Pontiac on Route 66 at 1380 North near the bridge. Open practice at Noon, race at 1 PM. Admission, $2.00 per person.

The Pontiac Jolly Trolley and the Pontiac People Mover Tram. Free tours of the Murals on Main Street, the Abraham Lincoln Story Trail sites, and other key attractions around town on both days. Hop aboard the trolley at How Sweet It Is!
