Eagle Days at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge - Madison, IL
Saturday, January 16 - Sunday, January 17, 2010
Admission: $5 parking
The 15th annual Eagle Days at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge features an educational program, spotting scopes and Lewis and Clark re-enactors. The eagle program, featuring a live eagle, is repeated every 20 minutes from 10:00am - 2:40pm. During the winter, the Mississippi River hosts one of the North America's largest concentrations of bald eagles, who are drawn to areas of open water in search of fish, their preferred food. The Chain of Rocks rapids to the south of the bridge are ideal fishing grounds. The bridge itself - a historic Route 66 crossing owned by the city of Madison, Illinois, and renovated in 1999 by Trailnet as one of the country's longest pedestrian/bicyle bridges - makes an ideal viewing platform for all ages. From the bridge, viewers can watch eagles fishing, riding ice floes, soaring overhead or roosting in nearby trees.
