Workday: Painting the Bunyon Giant
Saturday – August 27th (rain date 28th) 10:00 AM
It’s time to give the big guy in Atlanta, IL. a fresh coat of paint. The last time we did it was six years ago. Tens of thousands of tourists from around the world have their picture taken with Tall Paul. As a result it’s important that this preservation project of ours always looks good, it represents what we are all about.
Reminder, we work for food so there will be a feast of, what else, Hot Dogs. The statue was originally located at Bunyons restaurant in the Cicero/Berwyn area on Route 66. We hope to have some of the Stephens family members attend and help rededicate this iconic member of their family.
Come join the fun and be part of history!
Please call me, John Weiss, to let me know if you will be attending (815) 458-6616.
P.S. I need to go to Atlanta during the week to prepare Mr. Bunyon for painting. I need a few volunteers on Friday August 19th (rain date August 23rd) at 10:00 AM. Call me if you are interested.
P.P.S. I could also use some volunteers that would be interested in restoring a rock garden on the old Riviera property. No set date yet. Tom Perkins and I are about to create a new attraction on the property. Tom and I will also need some installation help in the near future. Once again if interested let me know and I will put you on the list.
Notice – For those who signed up to help redo the Route 66 display at the Funk Rest Area on I-55: The construction won’t be complete until about October. I will contact you when I know more. Anyone else interested?
We welcome your Route 66 news, stories, photos and events for publication in our newsletter or on our web site!
