Spotlight on Hall of Famers of the Past
It’s Hall of Fame Season!
In honor of this very special time of year when the important decisions are made as to who will be selected as this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, we’d like to look fondly backward in time to once again honor and recognize our Hall of Famers from the past. Let’s kick off the nostalgia and "start at the very beginning" with our very first group of Hall of Fame inductees, from 1990:
Inducted June 9, 1990
Ernie Edwards, Pig Hip Restaurant, Broadwell
John Geske and J.P. Walters, Dixie Truckers Home, McLean
Francis Marten, Our Lady of the Highways Shrine, Raymond
Francis Mowery, Illinois State Police, Pontiac
Russel Soulsby Shell Service Station, Mt. Olive
The drawings of these members of Route 66 Royalty shown here were published in a 1990 issue of The 66 News.
Not much information has been documented on some of these honorees. We’d love to hear your memories of these Hall of Famers in the comments below so they can be used to flesh out their record here on the website and create a complete archive of all of these special folks and their \"contributions to the character or history of the Illinois portion of Route 66."
Keep watching for subsequent years of Hall of Famers!
We welcome your Route 66 news, stories, photos and events for publication in our newsletter or on our web site!
