Route 66: The Local Road with Global Appeal

I hope you've had a chance to check out the Pontiac Tourism statistics which we share weekly on our Facebook page. They record the visitors to their attractions and from where they hail and compile a tidy report. The numbers are amazing, especially considering that the visitors come not only from a hefty number of these United States but from many countries around the globe! It's a real testament to the worldwide interest in and appeal of Route 66. It obviously remains a destination that captures the imagination, even from the ends of the Earth.

Inspired by Pontiac's reports, I did a little statistical investigation myself today. I looked through the statistics on our website traffic and I thought I would share what I learned:

globes.jpgFrom August 1-31, 2011, our website had visitors from 56 nations (besides the U.S.)! Roadies from all these places visited: Czech Republic, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, France, Norway, Peru, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, Portugal, Germany, Brazil, Luxembourg, Greece, India, Russian Federation, Iran, Iceland, Israel, South Africa, Turkey, The Netherlands, The Philippines, Taiwan, Costa Rica, Mexico, Finland, Poland, Qatar, Laos, Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, Slovakia, Cote D'ivorie, Chile, Argentina, Hungary, Austria, Sweden, Slovenia, Thailand, Angola, The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Georgia, Croatia, Panama, Bangladesh, China, Azerbaijan and Nigeria.

Wow! I didn't expect to find so many. It looks like I just opened an atlas and started copying down countries but I assure you, these are absolutely legitimate visitors to our little ol' website!

Even though all these folks from around the globe can't travel the Mother Road in person, they certainly are expressing an interest in her. It's nice to know that Route 66 has fans everywhere! It goes to show you, Route 66 is a road that spans the entire world!
