Governor's Home Town Award Winner
The Route 66 Association of Illinois & the City of Pontiac, IL receive the 2005 Governor’s Home Town Award
On November 10th, 2005 at the Annual Governor’s Home Town Award luncheon held in Springfield, IL the Route 66 Association of Illinois and the City of Pontiac, Illinois were chosen as 2005 Governor’s Home Town Awards Program winners in their category (category by population) for "Economic Development".
The award is annually given by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and is for the volunteerism of the association’s members and the City and the Pontiac Tourism Bureau.
In June of 2004 the City of Pontiac offered this city landmark to the Association this Historic Fire Station which is on the National Register of Historic Places, to house the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum.
