Elkhart's Place in Route 66 History - Dinner/Lecture/Music
The Elkhart Historical Society’s dinner/lecture on September 9 at The Wild Hare Café will feature a short presentation, read by Mike Drake, “Elkhart's Place in Route 66 History.”

Following the presentation, the quartet “True Blue” will start a trip down memory lane with the song, “Get Your Kicks on Rt. 66.” The Illinois-based barbershop quartet has members from Springfield, Athens and Elkhart, and is active in the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus and the Springfield chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Mike Drake sings lead, with Larry Drake singing tenor, Pat Claussen on baritone and Dean Olsen on bass. The accomplished quartet finished fourth in the Illinois District Quartet Contest in April 2011 and performs regularly in Springfield and at the Theater in the Park in New Salem.
Reservations must be received by September 2, 2011. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lecture and music from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $25 per person and includes the meal, beverage (coffee or tea), dessert, tax and gratuity, and the concert. Diners are welcome to bring their own beer or wine for the meal.
