A Wedding in Search of a Bride and Groom

Our thanks to Pam Monson who sent the following message to our website contact form at http://www.il66assoc.org/contact.

I wonder if you can help with something. (I'm already working on next year's Red Carpet Corridor event.)

The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce would like to host a Route 66 Wedding during the 2011 Red Carpet Corridor. We have a beautiful new gazebo in the park on Route 66 at our downtown intersection, we have an Elvis impersonator who can conduct a legal wedding ceremony; all we need is a bride and groom.

Motor Tour 2010: Through the eyes of the younger set

Our annual Association Motor Tour took place June 11-13, 2010. In the spirit of this year's motto: We Are Family, many participants took the opportunity to make the Motor Tour a family outing and create memories with their children. One family - the Blitsteins from Orland Park, IL - took their daughter and son on the Motor Tour this year. The kids took lots of photos and even reported on the fun they had - in their own words!

Here's what these Junior Members of our Association had to say about their experiences along the Mother Road:

Preserving the Memory of a Dedicated Preservationist

On July 3, 2010, the Preservation committee held a very special picinc at the Standard Oil Station in Odell, IL in honor of a very special lady, Lenore Weiss.

Lenore WeissLenore was a dear friend of Route 66 in general, our Association in particular and of many of our members. She passed away earlier this year and in her honor, the Preservation committee decided that a memorial to her dedication to Route 66 was in order.

After a tasty picnic lunch consisting of burgers, hot dogs and an assortment of side dishes and desserts contributed by the atendees, a brief ceremony was held. In Lenore's honor, a pear tree was planted on the property of this, our Association's flagship preservation project, the Odell Standard Oil Station. Lenore rolled up her sleeves along with the other preservationists to bring this treasure of the Mother Road back to its former glory. That's why this particular location for the picnic and dedication was so fitting to her memory.
