The Preservation Committee of the Route 66 Association of Illinois will hold its year-end meeting on November 19, 2011.

7:00 PM (however, it is recommended that you arrive at 6:00 PM and have something to eat. The food at this restaurant is outstanding!

According to Preservation Committee Chairman, John Weiss, 2011 has been a very productive year for Route 66 preservation and 2012 promises to be even more exciting. John says, "Many potential projects are currently being discussed. Please try and attend to learn more. As most of you know, our meetings are never dull or boring. Come and enjoy the camaraderie and friendship of like-minded folks."

The motto for Illinois Preservation members is, "We work for food." So the famous Schnitzel sandwiches will be served. That's better then money!!!!!

The Route 66 Association of Illinois will hold their annual picnic on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Sugar Grove Nature Center.

The Nature Center building contains interpretive exhibits, live animals, a children's discovery area, and wildlife viewing room (as well as indoor restrooms). Other site features include a Corn Crib Prairie Viewing Room, many gardens, and a children's nature play area, Imagination Grove. Visitors can also access five miles of trails from the parking lot.

This day is for two purposes. First we will do our before tourist season Spring clean up. That means a little of everything inside and out. Some new concrete could also be in place by then. Plan on painting and a lot of cleaning inside the bay area.

The second event of the day is to wish a happy birthday to the Route 66 Association President Cathie Stevanovich. A special feast is planed for all volunteers.

Museum Project Clean Up Day

The location in Godley is on Rt. 66 next to the Village Hall at the road that leads into the K Mine Park where we have had several picnics.

We will begin with a short ceremony to honor those who died in the Diamond Mine Disaster. The first bodies were recovered 128 years ago to the day. Forty six men and boys remain entombed.

Some preparation work has already been accomplished. Remaining is exterior painting, washing and installing paneling. Some interior demolition and painting, window washing, carpentry and some major floor cleaning and lots more. Of course lunch will be furnished by the Association and local residents.
