Tall Paul Needs a Facelift! (Phase 2)

Date:
Saturday, May 19, 2012 - 9:30am

Thanks to Preservation Committee Chairman, John Weiss, for providing the following information.

Tall Paul.jpgTall Paul, the Hot Dog man in Atlanta needs painting.

Back in 2003, we removed Paul from his long time home in Berwyn, Illinois. We moved him to my home for a complete restoration. In 2004 he was erected in his new home in Atlanta. Since then, tens of thousands of people from around the world have come to visit the gentle giant.

However, his face is a bit cracked at the area that originally was shot out with a shotgun blast. His paint is shabby looking all over him and his famous hot dog is not very appetizing looking.

Due to his size and configuration this project will be done in two parts. I will go there
May 15th to work on the face. On Saturday May 19th we will paint the rest of him. (I will really need help setting up scaffolding) This will be a challenge. The first time he was painted he was in pieces on the ground.

Cleanup Day at Odell Gas Station

Date:
Saturday, April 14, 2012 - 9:00am

Thanks to Preservation Committee Chairman, John Weiss, for providing the following information.

Odell.jpgSince our beginning, every Spring, we have gathered at the Odell Gas Station to spruce it up for the tourist season. (Paint, clean, organize, etc.)

Many of the original volunteers who worked to save the station are no longer with us. Others, for age or health reasons, can no longer participate as I know they want to. It is up to us to carry on and keep this little station the pride of Route 66 in Illinois.

It began as only a wish and a foolish dream. It has now become the symbol of what the Route 66 Preservation Committee is all about.
