The Macoupin County "Million Dollar" Courthouse

This is the largest courthouse in the United States.  Built in 1870 this famous courthouse is reported to have cost over a million dollars to complete and created a scandal the likes of which are still talked about.  The building is made of limestone and is a fine example of the mid-1800s Renaissance Revival style architecture.
