Hallies on the Square Celebrates 10th Anniversary

We thank Geoff Ladd of Logan County Tourism for providing the following story for us to share:

LINCOLN, IL – Hallies on the Square will celebrate a decade of business in downtown Lincoln with an anniversary party planned for Saturday, Oct. 20.

The anniversary special is a $5 blue plate schnitzel with soda and chips. Timeless Presentations of Bloomington-Normal will give a living history portrayal between 3 and 6 p.m.

Brian Huffman, who owns and operates Hallies, is the great-grandson of Blossom Huffman. Blossom once owned and operated The Mill restaurant, a Route 66 establishment know as “the home of the schnitzel.”

Another Exciting Motor Tour!

The Route 66 Association of Illinois presents an annual Motor Tour, when we trek along our section of the Mother Road, stopping at attractions along the way. It's a fun, nostalgic and informative journey along Route 66 in the company of other enthusiasts. The tour traditionally kicks off the second Friday of June with a get-together and registration event. Come Saturday morning, we hit the road, officially beginning the tour. Saturday evening, we hold a banquet where we induct the new members to our Hall of Fame. On Sunday morning, we hit the road for the last leg of the tour.

One-of-a-Kind Art to Become a Route 66 Stop

We thank Pam Monson, Editor at Free Press Newspapers for sharing the following report with us about the works of a local folk, metal artist, the late Jack Barker, which will become a Route 66 landmark in Wilmington, IL.

The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce is purchasing a one-of-a-kind piece of folk art for a future roadside attraction that will greet Route 66 travelers visiting Wilmington.
The Chamber is working with the city to purchase and place a metal sculpture of a bison created by Jack Barker of Essex.
